Jay at Pro Ecclesia talked about a new bill wending it's way through Congress. It's called the Life at Conception Act (HR 552). This appears to grant citizenship to humans in utero. The website states:
Then the High Court made a key admission:"If this suggestion of personhood is established, the appellant's case [i.e. "Roe" who sought the abortion], of course, collapses, for the fetus' right to life is then guaranteed by the [14th] Amendment." That's exactly what a Life at Conception Act would do.
I say: "Well duh".
Roe v. Wade only has teeth since the unborn don't currently enjoy constitutional protection as citizens. This bill will do that. Once this happens, the unborn (at whatever stage of their development) will not be able to be deprived of life, liberty or property without due process of law.
Abortion proponents will be quick to bring up the spectre of "the life of the mother". These cases will be able to be handled with "due process".
Now that we have a comfortable majority of legislators who profess to be pro-life, we need to tell them it's time to put their money where their mouths are. We need to tell them that any legislator who holds up this bill or votes against it will be looking for other work next term.
The time has come to come to the aid of the most helpless of our brothers and sisters, swimming peacefully in what ought to be the safest place on earth... their mother's womb.
