I Have Gotten Sirius

Sirius OneI have long been a fan of AM talk radio (I guess you probably couldn't guess). We have a conservative talk radio station here, but it's always pre-empted by sports. Any sports. Local sports, national, high school, whatever. We also have a sports talk radio station, and we had "progressive" talk radio a few months ago which featured "Air America".

When Air America crashed and burned, the "progressive" talk radio went to ESPN radio. So now we have a sports talk radio station, a sports radio station, and a conservative talk radio station when there's no sports (do you see a trend here?).

I finally got so fed up that I decided to buy Sirius satellite radio. I'm pretty handy, so the installation in my car was about an hour. I drive an hour a day, so I get my money's worth. One of the main reasons I purchased Sirius over XM was the two Catholic channels, "The Catholic Channel" (159) and EWTN (160).

So when I was driving to church tonight for our weekly rosary at 7:30, I was listening to Sirius channel 159 to the "Speak now..." program who featured one of my favorite columnists, the lovely and talented Susan Konig. She was on with her husband what's-his-name (sorry Dave). I had never heard of Dave before Sirius (they say he's a star of stage and screen), but I have been reading Susan's columns in Catholic Digest every month. I always turn to the back page first whenever I open the magazine.

Tonight Dave is railing against the mainstream media's favorite whipping boy, the *GASP* blogs! I guess he has listeners who blog, and he was disappointed that he was taken to task for something he said that one of the bloggers (I'd imagine a St. Blog's parishioner) regarded as not quite orthodox Catholic teaching. I guess like most of us, Dave doesn't like correction or criticism. That's ok. I've gotten used to it (being corrected and criticized, that is). It's part of saying things publicly on the internet (or on nation-wide satellite radio).

Dave explained what bloggers were to his audience members consisting of truckers, and other people with "real jobs". Bloggers are people who sit in their pajamas at their computer criticizing people. Anyone can have a weblog. The implication is bloggers are some sub-standard species of commentator as opposed to someone with a real talk show like well... him.

He also said he'd never invite a blogger on his show, except ones that say nice things about him.

What the heck, I'll say something nice about him. He chose a good wife.
