Father Fox' First Latin Mass Homily

Earlier this week I reported on Fr. Fox at Bonfire of the Vanities had planned a Latin Mass. It was my kind of Latin Mass, the Latin ticked off the nutsy progressives, and the Novus Ordo ticked off the radical traditionalists. This, in my opinion, is the perfect kind of blending of the older expression and the newer. Had this been done like this in the beginning, a little at a time, my young faith might have not been damaged. But God has a purpose for everything.

Here is a short section of the good father's homily. Go read the whole thing.
We are Roman Catholics-
we belong to the Latin Rite of the Catholic Church.

Many don't realize that not all Catholics are Roman.
In Iraq, there are Chaldean Catholics;
in Lebanon, Maronite Catholics;
in Eastern Europe, Byzantine Rite Catholics.

This may surprise you, but it's not that Latin is important.

What's important is being connected
with our own heritage and identity.

Indeed, Fr. Fox.

This has always amazed me. It seems that our progressive friends are inclusive with everyone except people who have an affinity for Latin. We have masses in every language on the planet, but as soon as someone mentions Latin, people talk about "turning back the clock".

Latin is the language of our Church. All of our official documents are developed in Latin and then translated (sometimes erroneously) from the official Latin. As a matter of fact, the Apostolic letter which liberalized the Mass of the Blessed John XXIII, Summorum Pontificum, was developed in Latin. All of the documents of the Second Vatican Council were developed in Latin.

So thanks again, Father Fox for providing this particular green pasture for what in most parishes is a marginalized segment of your flock.
