"The View" On Denying Communion To Persistently Grave Sinners

Mark Shea posts a transcript of "The View" where a bunch of stupid women get together and discuss things they have no clue about.

This is the part that interested me:
ELISABETH HASSELBECK: I always had an issue with priests denying communion. I remember someone in my family went through a divorce. Unless she got her marriage anulled, she wasn't allowed to receive communion. Her ex-husband wouldn't give her an anullment. He wouldn't show up for the anullment. So, then she was shamed, in other words, for not being --

BEHAR: Ex-communicated, yeah.

HASSELBECK: -pretty much not able to walk down and receive what is to be the most intimate, you know, part of the week with God and taking Jesus into your body.

Hey Liz, I have a question for you. If you discovered that your husband was cheating on you, and he approached your "altar" for "communion" with you, do you think that you might be a little reluctant? Do you think that if you simply gave in and gave him what he wanted, you'd feel kind of "cheap" maybe? Wouldn't you want your husband to "get right with you", receive "forgiveness of his sins against you" before approaching you for "communion"? Hmmm?

Sexual intercourse within the sacrament of marriage is analogous to the sacrament of Holy Communion in the context of the Holy Mass. Ideally the two spouses become one physically, emotionally and spiritually during sexual intercourse. Likewise, we should become one with Christ physically, emotionally and spiritually during Holy Communion. As one would be required to get right with your spouse before approaching him or her for sexual intercourse, one is required to get right with Christ before approaching Him for Holy Communion.

Let's not even get into Liz' error with stating that if you are divorced, you cannot receive communion. If you are divorced and remarried without benefit of anullment you are committing adultery and you should not present yourself for Holy Communion.

Mark is right. This is how millions of ordinary slobs get their information about the Catholic faith.
