Radical Catholic Mom seems to be upset over the possibility of 5 states attempting to overturn affirmative action. She writes:
The point that ALWAYS ALWAYS comes up when anyone speaks about AA is that the WHITE person is "qualified" and the "MINORITY" person who got said position is ALWAYS "unqualified." How do we know the white person is qualified? How do we know the minority was unqualified? And the other assumption that frustrates me is that if there is NO AA then, of course, the system will be more just. How do we know that whites are not being accepted merely because they are white?
I would make the case that people may prefer their own color without even thinking about it, probably because they can relate to each other easier. Certainly hanging out with people of other cultures forces one review ones' beliefs and opinions because the personal experiences are quite unique.

When I was on a business trip this week, I had the opportunity to stop into a Burger King for dinner. The lady at the counter who took my order was obviously hispanic, and her vocabulary seemed to be limited to "whopper", "coke", "large", etc., the words she would most need to do her job. But she was friendly, with a big happy grin, so it was enjoyable to take the time to try and communicate with her and put in my order. As she called the order back, I noticed that she was speaking Spanish, and I looked in the back and every eingle employee on that particular shift was hispanic and all the communication going on in the kitchen was in Spanish.

So does this "hanging with people of other cultures" apply to hispanics and other minorities? Or does it only apply to white people. I would be interested in Radical Catholic Mom's answer, but since she asked me to no longer visit her blog, I can't ask her.

My guess would be that she would think an all hispanic staff is fine, but an all white staff is not. I might be wrong, but I'd guess not.
