This weekend I guess I was listening to scripture a little too intently, and I got one of those wierd moments where I thought I had recognized scripture from somewhere... But where???
I was listening to the Gospel according to Matthew where Jesus is tempted by Satan in the desert.
"If you are the Son of God," he said, "throw yourself down. For it is written:
" 'He will command his angels concerning you,
and they will lift you up in their hands,
so that you will not strike your foot against a stone.'"
Then I remembered the line from Michael Joncas' hymn, On Eagles' Wings:
For to His angels He's given a command
to guard you in all of your ways;
upon their hands they will bear you up,
lest you dash your foot against a stone.
So is Michael Joncas quoting Satan in his song?
Well, not really. Satan is quoting Psalm 91:11-12. I'd imagine Michael is too... Right?
