Developing...Yup, symbolism over substance. That is what I've seen on the Democratic side of this year's campaign season. Who holds what banner for what aggrieved group. This season it's the blacks versus the women.

Todd from Catholic Sensibility has some political musings. I think I'm going to enjoy mixing it up with Todd on this one.

He writes:
The American political system really breaks down when the decisions aren’t final in January. Imagine hosting a party at which your guests stay hours after they’re supposed to have left. Sober and well-rested, your friends are great friends and fine party guests. But if you let a little pickling and a few loony party games take over, I’m sure you’ll find a YouTube moment or two. Big deal; it’s the human condition.

The whole Obama experience is based on symbolism. Obama the uniter. Obama the wise. Obama the savior. Obama the "post-racial" sent by God Himself to heal the racial divide in this country.

The 60 million dollar question has been: "Who is Obama?" Who is he really? This is a question I don't think Obama or his core group of handlers want you to know. It seems the more you know about Obama, the less you like him.

And this isn't just a recent explosion of looniness, this is the result of associations and assorted ass-kissing with the black community in Chicago to get their approval so that your political career can even begin. It means going to the home of "the Godfather", William Ayres the unrepentant Weatherman who bombed the Capitol and has said as recently as September 11, 2001 that he would do it all over again, and wished he could have done more, and kissing his ring. He has spent 20 years in the Trinity Church of Christ "making his political bones" and subjecting his two little girls to weekly sermons peppered with racial hatred and hatred of this country.

Obama is like one of those polaroid pictures that pops out of the camera, and is white. However as time elapses, the picture becomes clearer and clearer. And I know that as I look at the developing picture, I definitely don't like what I see.

Had this Rev. White and David Ayres stuff had come out in Iowa, my guess is that the primary season would have been over on Super Tuesday and Mrs. Clinton would be the presumprive nominee. However it didn't work out that way. We have seen a consistent ass-kicking by Mrs. Clinton in almost every election since Rev. Goddamn America made his debut on national television.
feel badly for Catholic conservatives. They’re really in a tough spot. The Iraq War and the brazen incompetence and immorality of the W administration makes it likely Senator Obama is going to sweep into the White House.

I'd like to tell Todd not to count his chickens before they come home to roost.

I think that as we learn the depth of Obama's sleaze (that does not even take into account his support of infanticide, that's a big plus for many of his supporting factions), that between Senator McCain's stellar war record, his having sat on national defense comittees for most of his long senate career, his appeal to independents and even some Democrats, Obama is going to get his head handed to him in November. This doesn't even take into account the large number of Hillary supporters who are going to cross over in November just to stick a thumb in Obama's eye.
Rather than put the presidential race to a merciful end and vote next week, we’ll have five more months of a curious little game. Let’s scour the internet for the craziest political supporter we can unearth and declare that person’s candidate a loser. Heck of a lot more fun than democracy. Or a house party without booze.

This isn't about who supports you. It's about who you have chosen for your circle of friends. We have a lot more time to find out who Obama is. Since we have no idea of his stand on many issues (he's remained prudently silent, though his record when he wasn't being a coward and voting "present" speaks for itself), we are forced to evaluate the man. When he was a blank slate, his adoring public could project their pet issue on him and be sure he would take care of them when he was elected. If his issues solidify, that will go away. If his issues don't solidify, he'll be exposed as an empty suit, propped up by some very unsavory characters. Either way, Senator McCain will look like the hero he is.

Senator Clinton has a slim chance of taking this, but she won't be the nominee. If she is, expect overturned cars burning in Denver. If she isn't, her supporters who had their hearts set on the first woman President will remember that Obama metaphorically told "the most intelligent and competent woman in the universe" to sit down and shut up because I'm a black man and it's my turn. Remember the adage: "Hell hath no fury..."
Catholic Republicans may find the task of gotcha! rather fun compared to real politics these days. I confess I can’t keep my eyes off this bloggerosion.

Well, Obama has been asked to "politic fair" and discuss the issues intelligently. He refuses. So I say if he won't fight fair, it's perfectly ok to politically kick him in his one testicle. Hillary's been somewhat coy about doing it. McCain doesn't seem to want to. The conservative 527s (thanks to McCain-Feingold) will be more than happy to stap on a jackboot and kick for a 50 year field goal.

For someone who watches politics as a spectator sport, this has been the most exciting season I've ever seen. But among the Democrats it has seemed like a contest between two poodles to see who gets to fight the Rottweiler.

I haven't had this much fun in ages. I can't wait to hit the streets around September.
