Militant atheists are a funny breed. One would think that they could live their God-deprived-though-happy-lives by themselves, and not worry about people who believe in God. But the atheists who go out of their way to go to the blogs, comment areas, and forums of believers and try and convince them that their belief is a sham, simply perplex me.
Oh, I've heard it brought up that believers are always trying to convert them. Well... that's what most of us are required to do. We do it because we love them. We believe deeply that their lives here on earth would be more joy-filled, as would their eternity in heaven with God, if they would believe in, and live to serve God and one another. But what does an atheist get out of destroying the faith of a believer? Is it the greater good of the believer? I'd guess not. Is it some greater good for the atheist? I don't know.
If someone tries and introduce you to God and you're not interested, tell them so. They will usually leave you alone. If they don't, complain. But understand the mindset behind the attempt. They love you. If they didn't, they'd simply allow you to continue your slow slide to hell.
But with some of these people, they repay charity with hatred:
So, what to do. I have an idea. Can anyone out there score me some consecrated communion wafers? There's no way I can personally get them — my local churches have stakes prepared for me, I'm sure — but if any of you would be willing to do what it takes to get me some, or even one, and mail it to me, I'll show you sacrilege, gladly, and with much fanfare. I won't be tempted to hold it hostage ... but will instead treat it with profound disrespect and heinous cracker abuse, all photographed and presented here on the web. I shall do so joyfully and with laughter in my heart. If you can smuggle some out from under the armed guards and grim nuns hovering over your local communion ceremony, just write to me and I'll send you my home address.
This P.Z. Myers character is a piece of work. He's so brave. I wonder if he would have written the same missive substituting the word "Koran" for his dismissive and insulting description of the Eucharist. My guess is no, because despite what he said in the beginning of his screed, Catholics are generally peaceful people. And even though he's a hateful person, we are required to love him, and pray for his conversion.
So here's what I'm going to do. I'm not going to threaten him, it is not the Catholic way. I'm going to pray for him.
The discussion thread of this blog post will be dedicated to Prayers for P.Z. I will start the first one. I will delete anything that is not a prayer for P.Z.'s conversion to Christ. Prayers that are thinly veiled insults will also be deleted.
